Syracuse, Mch. 21, 1883.
Dear Prof. Ward.
The Doctor dislikes to have me go
to Rochester so perhaps I had best undertake the
work here. I think it would be well to delay
issuing the Catalogue till say July, for the reason
that you will be adding new species till the end of
the collecting season and the cat. ought not to be issued till they are in. I can now get the copy
all ready, and then Mr. Preston could add the
new species before sending to the printer. Shall
you arrange according to Coues' or the new Ridgway
list ? The latter seems to be generally adopted.
I enclose a list of catalogues, etc. which will be
needed, and which I would like to have sent
by express with some things which Mr. Preston
will send me. I hope to get a few eggs myself during the spring, and shall try to secure the
Prairie Dog skeletons which have so long been
wanted.
Enclosed is notice of Prof. Wilder's book. It will

Dear Prof. Ward,
Since we last wrote you Prof. Hooper
has paid ($51.0. and int. amounting in all to $530.40) He expresses much regret that he has been obliged
to keep you waiting so long.
M.C.Z. has paid up for Elephant ($1104.-)
the July shipment amounted to $859.
The extra expenses for Cincinnati amounted
to $85. and Lee Ward allowed that amount
extra. He comes up regularly once a week
and looks about but seldom makes any
comments. He is apparently trying hard to
see where the trouble lies, but thus far I
doubt if with much success, I certainly
hope he may succeed and that the business
may be made to pay - as it ought to do.
You will receive with this, papers announcing
the death of Mr. L. A. Ward.
Enclosed is summary for month and list
of amounts now due. The only sale of any size
during July except M.C.Z. - was Prof. Jerome Allen $135. - I hope we may receive some orders soon
to make business a little more lively, I hope
