[Embossed] BRITISH MUSEUM

Zoological Department
13 Jan. 1876
Sir
I have seen today at the
College of Surgeons your list
of American Animals, & shall
esteem it a favor, if you
will regularly send me any
fresh editions of the same,
as well as inform me of any
rare or particularly fine
specimens which you may
have for sale in the future.
[Embossed] BRITISH MUSEUM
British Museum, if you
shall have fine examples
in stock. But, let it be
clearly understood in this as
well as in all future Trans-
actions between us, that the
specimens must be such as
have been killed in a wild
stare, and not mena? - speci-
mens of which we have already
too many; and further, that
they must be perfect. If you
should not have specimens
of this superior kind in hand,
I rather wait; on the other
hand you will /// find me
? to give liberal prices.
I am anxious that I should
receive as many of the specimens
enumerated in the list, as you
can send, before the end of
February as I wish to pay
your bill out of the funds of
our present financial year
which ends in the month of
March. And I request you to
inform me at your earliest
convenience, when & to what
extant you will be able to
execute my order.
All the boxes in which you
send specimens for the British
Museum, should be addressed
thus:
The Principal Librarian

Contents: Zool. Dept.
London
We possess already a suffi-
cient number of the more
interesting species as well
as of the common ones.
Perhaps, you can get a copy
of my "Catalogue of the Fishes
in the British Museum"
(8 volumes) from which you
could easily see what species
we possess already. I do not
care whether the specimens
you send, are named or not,
provided that the exact locality
is known where they have
been obtained. Of large species
I wish large specimens, up to
2 feet in ?, beyond that
in skins fit for stuffing.
Please
Please let me know what
your prices would be for
such specimens.
I want Freshwater fish
only not marine species.
I remain
Yours Truly
A. Gunther,
Keeper of the Zoolog. Dept.
